The Longshot Summer Tour 2017 hits The Big Dipper in Spokane, WA on June 7 with Bumpin Uglies! Tickets on sale now!

Passafire's new album, Longshot, drops May 12th on Easy Star Records and is available for pre order now at Passafire.com/longshot-preorder/

On Passafire’s sixth studio release, Longshot, the Savannah, GA based rock outfit gives a testimony to following dreams, inspired by people, places, and experiences Passafire has shared since forming as a band. The group’s four members continue chasing their passion despite being told many times that “Making it as a musician is a long-shot,” a piece of advice that inspired this album and its title. Longshot takes its listeners through a full spectrum of emotions, telling stories of heartbreak, new beginnings, overcoming personal struggles, finding truths, discovering new places, and getting older, all weaved into Passafire’s genre-defying mix of reggae, hard rock, hip hop, and anything else that turns the group on musically.

Passafire was formed in Savannah, GA, in 2003 by Ted Bowne and Nick Kubley, and have built a strong reputation within the U.S. reggae scene through relentless touring with fellow band members Mike DeGuzman and Will Kubley. Bowne doesn’t mind the grueling schedule and adds, “Touring is the best way to keep the buzz about the band going. What keeps it fun and exciting is the people we meet and places we get to see. We are in a new city every day so there’s always something to go see or do.” They continue to be a larger part of the U.S. reggae scene, even though musically they are often far apart from many of their peers in the genre, with a growing emphasis on alternative and progressive rock elements within their songs.

--Coffin Break was formed in Seattle in the late 1980s, during the time that grunge was beginning to catch on; however, the group eschewed the nascent alternative sound, taking their influences from punk rock.[1] The group released its first two full-length albums and a compilation on C/Z Records. Signing to Epitaph Records, they released two further albums in 1991 and 1992 before disbanding in late 1993. Both bassist Rob Skinner and guitarist Peter Litwin wrote songs for the group, and the group's releases show a marked difference between their songwriting styles. Kurt Cobain mentioned the group as one of his favorite bands ~Review of No Sleep 'Til the Stardust Motel. Allmusic.   http://www.coffinbreak.com/

The band Guitar Wolf (ギターウルフ), founded in Nagasaki, Japan in 1987, are known for their piercing vocals and extremely loud style of garage punk that emphasized heavy distortion. They coined the phrase "Jett Rock 'n' Roll", a homage to rocker Joan Jett, which they also use to describe their musical style - an energetic cross between The Ramones, rockabilly, classic punk, and noise rock. The band star in cult classic zombie flick Wild Zero.

MIKE LOVE and guests

 $13, $16

Revolutionary music may seem hard to come by in these days and times. Long gone is the era of artists like Bob Marley, The Clash, Stevie Wonder and Patti Smith getting airplay and bringing their messages to the masses. But that doesn’t mean that the revolution isn’t still brewing in the hearts and minds of many people around the globe.

Meet Mike Love. One of reggae music’s rising stars. Born and raised in Oahu, Hawaii to a musical family that spans generations, Mike Love brings a multitude of influences to the table, all tied together by the common goal of making the world a better place.  Through the grassroots method of releasing his albums independently, on his own Love Not War Records label, and performing 250 plus shows a year, Love has built an ever growing following for his unique and inspiring music.  He has toured with many artists in the circles of conscious, roots music, including Trevor Hall, Xavier Rudd, Nahko and many more.  Over the past few years he performed to enthusiastic audiences at the California Roots Festival, Wakarusa, Wanderlust and the Montreal Jazz Fest, just to name a few. He has also enjoyed great success and exposure through the web on outlets like YouTube, with one of his videos just recently hitting 9 million views!

On his award winning debut album, The Change I’m Seeking, Love harkens the legends of roots reggae in both his lyrics and his sound, but never relies on any one genre to hold him down. Coming from a wealth of influences, Love fuses the simple rhythms of classic reggae with the complex changes of the classical and rock music he was first trained on to come up with a style wholly unique to him.  On his follow up album, Love Will Find A Way, released September 1st, 2015, Love further refines his sound and message, with grand and striking arrangements and deep heartfelt emotions, he takes you on a journey which many describe as "life changing".  He calls for immediate and drastic change in environmental impact on "Step Lightly", affirms his connection with fans on "I Love You, and shows a vulnerable and touching insight into his personal life on "Advaya's Song" and "No Regrets".  Following up with his most eclectic blend of styles, "Love Overflowing" perfectly compliments the previous release, with a downplayed mood of depth and reflection in the music.

But it’s his message, his passion, the wisdom behind his words that truly resonate with his fans. “It’s always been about the healing,” Mike Love explains, “I’ve never been into music that was shallow. I’m still learning about where I’m going and where I want to be. All the music is a learning tool for me too. I just make myself open to it and the messages come through. It’s just as teaching and healing for me as it is for anyone.”

His songs take you on a journey, one of healing and inspiration. One designed to help you on your path to knowledge, wisdom and understanding. On “Permanent Holiday” he takes you on a lyrical quest for freedom, both his and yours. He laments the ills of the world but also discusses solutions and ideas to change them. On "Earthlings" he sings about being vegan, about animal cruelty and about holding yourself accountable for your actions. These are songs with messages designed to affect change in a time when it is so desperately necessary.

Love and his band have already toured in the U.S., Canada, Central America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and East Asia.  Mike Love has shared the stage with artists like Michael Franti, Trevor Hall, Nahko & Medicine For The People, Xavier Rudd, Rebelution, John Butler Trio, Groundation, Steel Pulse, Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson.  2017 is shaping up to be a big year of even more growth for Love and his musical family with plenty of touring and work on a brand new record!

ODDISEE & GOOD COMPNY – BENEATH THE SURFACE TOUR featuring OLIVIER ST. LOUIS
The son of Sudanese and American parents, Amir Mohamed was born and raised in the United States capital city of Washington DC, spending hot summers in Khartoum learning Arabic and swimming in the Nile. Growing up amidst the sounds of New York hip hop, his father playing Oud, Go-Go, and gospel, Amir took his first steps as an MC producer in the analog basement studio of his legendary neighbor, Garry Shider (Parliament Funkadelic).
Convincing his entrepreneurial father that he too had business acumen, Amir laid the check from his first commercial release on the kitchen table before his 21st birthday and never looked back. Though Oddisee has gone on to perform with The Roots, produce for Freeway, Jazzy Jeff, Little Brother, De La Soul & Nikki Jean, and has MC’d on production from Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke and Kev Brown, his proudest moment was the birth of his critically acclaimed group Diamond District with fellow Washingtonians X.O. and yU.
Known in the music industry for his independence, Oddisee consistently debunks the scatterbrained artist myth - doing everything from booking international tours to photography to marketing and promoting himself and even other artists. He now works as both artist and consultant with Mello Music Group, one of the foremost emerging independent labels to take advantage of the digital revolution to build a successful business.

Olivier was born in Washington DC of Haitian and Cameroon heritage, but spent most of his childhood studying in the remote countryside of the UK. His boarding school experience not only developed his appreciation for other cultures but musically he grew-up hearing beyond the excepted genres of a kid from the Nation’s Capital. At age 15 Olivier’s CD and sometimes cassette collection would range from hip hop, RnB to Garage and British rock.
Olivier remained in the UK and completed a Bio Science Degree in Oxford but couldn’t suppress his real passion for music. After graduation he began a ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ life. A scientist by day; recording artist by night.
In 2006 he released his first album titled “kilowatt”, which put the artist known as ‘Olivier Daysoul’ on the map within the underground electro-hiphop scene. Simultaneously, Olivier began receiving numerous requests from producers to feature as a vocalist.
He went on to receive significant international attention for his work as a featured singer/songwriter. This momentum pushed Olivier in 2010 to take the leap and pursue music full time. He worked and toured worldwide with various artists including Hudson Mohawke, Oddisee, the C2C Dj’s, and many more. Despite all of this, Olivier felt something was missing…A true reflection of his own voice and sound.
A hiatus from feature recordings and some deep introspection found Olivier discovering his love for blues, rock and funk. Many late night guitar sessions resulted in new soundscapes. A new chapter was opening. The former ‘Daysoul’ moniker exchanged for his original birth name ‘St. Louis’. Producing and writing all his own music and playing his own instrumentation; Olivier St. Louis was embarking on a new road.
The “Black Music EP” coming out on Jakarta Records gives listeners both old and new a taste of Olivier’s true music palate.
When asked his thoughts on his artistry he states:
„no punches pulled …no compromises … just me”.

(Hed) p.e. - The quest to uncover the truth has given California-based hardcore pioneers (Hed)p.e. new life. While the band has weathered the stormy waters of the music business for over a decade and enjoyed a slew of successful albums, it’s their quest for answers that has given them purpose.

I believe (Hed)p.e’s longevity is due to the fact that our records are more than just music,” concludes Jahred. “Some of the greatest artists have used their music for social commentary. Bands like Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Sex Pistols, and The Clash, have all empowered their fans to rise up to fight injustice. Since we’ve got involved with The Truth Movement, I’ve heard from thousands of fans who are excited that we’re using our music to explore things other than girl and boy problems. The best bands use their music for more than dancing and getting wasted.”

(Hed)pe has their sights firmly set on the New World Order and they are using their brand of hardcore to bring it down. While early (Hed)pe albums found them mixed up in the rock n’ roll lifestyle, the group have been reborn to become the voice for a movement that empowers the youth and explores Secret World History, and at the same time promotes unity and political activism. Always pushing the envelope, (Hed)pe’s new album EVOLUTION is built on heavy dark riffs and deep, solid grooves.

FOLKINCEPTION / THE HOLY BROKE

$7 adv , $10 door     Doors open at 7:30pm

Folkinception's musical roots rise from the great American folk tradition and extend far into the realm of Americana and Rock n Roll. The band has been praised for their ability to “build a song from a whisper to a roar”. The music is firmly rooted in a song writing process that pays homage to life's triumphs, while confronting adversity with a defiant sense of optimism. Their sound, developed over the past six years, conveys a musical identity unique to their Northwest origins. Folkinception is putting their stamp an a new genre of music coming out of the Pacific Northwest today... Upper Left Americana.

Cello, violin, harmonica and vocal harmonies layer together to provide a uniquely original timbre; while electric guitar and Hammond organ vary between nuanced textures and soaring climactic heights. Drums, bass, acoustic guitar and piano round out the instrumentation and act as the driving, rhythmic force behind the songs. Since the band’s inception in 2011 Folkinception has evolved into a regional fan favorite; supporting many of the great up and coming, independent bands touring the Northwest today. Folkinception has shared the stage with Fruition, Hot Buttered Rum, The Lil' Smokies, Dead Winter Carpenters, Polecat, Hillstomp, Cornmeal and many more. The band is currently working with Producer Chris White of Comrade Studios (LA/Seattle/Spokane) on their second, full length album, to be released mid-2017.

The Holy Broke (Spokane, WA), ambiguous name for the growling solo work of Kent Ueland, encapsulates his dark, messy music and all its jagged shards. You won’t find stained glass tributes to lost loves or idle words about a better life in his lyrics. No, Ueland is the busted and bitter. Equal parts the man sunken into his couch and the snarling boy smiling through his bleeding upper lip, the classic country riffs carry Ueland’s vocals through a debauched journey into heartache. The relatable simplicity of struggling to pay rent, eat a decent meal, or even get out of bed give his songwriting a surprising power. There lies the ambiguity. Has something holy been broken? Is it a form of holiness to be broke? Is there no such thing as the concept, “holy,” to begin with? Look for the forthcoming album Do It Yourself this winter, listen to it when you’re down on your luck, listen to it to celebrate not being there, but most of all listen. An injured dog is howling

KYRS presents LIFE DURING WARTIME / SUPER SPARKLE

$10 from http://kyrs.org/store/

Portland's own "Life During Wartime" delivers a power punch of Talking Heads songs in the funk style of Stop Making Sense. Bring your dancing shoes! Spokane’s "Super Sparkle" will open up the night. A portion of ticket sales goes to support KYRS-Thin Air Community Radio!

Life During Wartime is the Pacific NW's authentic Talking Heads tribute show band, dedicated to giving you the full-on TH experience!

For Life During Wartime, every performance matters, and, it’s that mantra, that keeps them delivering on the outlandish energy of a Talking Heads performance. Especially that of the epic 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense, which they consider to be the most brilliant concert film of all time. The pace, theatrics, and sheer groove of that film inspired a group of energetic Portland musicians to form LDW in the summer of 2014.

“We got together to create the way it felt in 1984 at a Talking Heads show. Not to imitate, but to do great songs justice from an amazing period in music” says Lawrence Orleck, the group’s co-founder, who performs as David Byrne. “Talking Heads created some of the most adventurous, original and danceable music of the 1980s post-punk era and we wanted to give Portland audiences a taste of that excitement.” And, taste they did. In a relatively short amount of time, LDW has generated significant buzz in The Northwest. Audiences keep coming back. Not only for their exuberant interpretations of legendary Talking Heads hits like Burning Down the House, and Psycho Killer, but also for the improvisational, and random experience they deliver at every one of their shows.

“Plain and simple: When you are at a LDW show, you SEE LDW not some musical memory of a great band from the 80’s. That’s what separates a good night of music from a great night.” That ethic has paid off as LDW continues to sell out larger and larger venues in The Northwest.

“We also thought it would be an incredible adventure to put together, periodically, the actual Stop Making Sense performance. It’s a concept that starts with ostensibly no stage setup and out comes David Byrne with a beatbox and acoustic. The stage slowly builds to a full performance as the players and gear ebb onto the stage – until a mid show climax with Byrne in a giant suit. It’s great fun to honor the performance that was the nucleus for this project.”

The band is performing Stop Making Sense, Talking Heads, and other surprise material in premier venues across the Northwest. Hop on board the swirl. Its dizzying but fun!

Fresh off the 7th incarnation of their “Werk Out Music & Arts Festival”, which draws 5000+ people to Ohio every August, they’ll hit the road once again for a number of headline dates as well as shows supporting peers like Umphrey’s McGee & Moe.

Horseshoes and Hand Grenades / Traveler of Home / Lucas Brown and Friends

Horseshoes And Handgrenades - In 2010, the five Wisconsinites that make up Horseshoes & Hand Grenades found themselves in a living room in the college town of Stevens Point, WI, holding acoustic instruments and enjoying a hodgepodge of fermented beverages. Music and revelry ensued that evening and, while many of the party guests eventually bid their goodbye well into the morning hours, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades wasn’t ready to let the get-together fade. Many years later, the music still hasn’t stopped and the party is still going strong, from the mountain west to the river towns of the Midwest that the quintet calls home, and all across America.
$8 http://hahg.bpt.me/, $10 DOOR. Doors at 7pm

While strongly rooted in bluegrass, old-time, and folk music, the band produces a sound that draws on the vaults of music collectively and individually enjoyed throughout the course of their lives thus far. The music doesn’t lend itself well to categories or boundaries. One could possibly be formed, but the boys seem to generally prefer fishing a river, or enjoying the company of friends and barley beers.

With their music well-defined or not, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades has begun to form a place in the American music scene, gaining recognition on both a regional and national scale. The band took 3rd place at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s Band Competition in 2012 and has since shared the stage with Trampled By Turtles, The Travelin’ McCourys, Railroad Earth, Merle Haggard, The Infamous Stringdusters, Yonder Mountain String Band, Marty Stuart, and many more. The group’s third full-length Middle Western was released in March of 2015 and another record is expected in 2017. Being mostly inspired by rivers, valleys, good friends, and good drink, this five-piece is as sturdy as any Midwest riverbed and will make your toes tap from sundown to sunrise.

Matt Hollywood ( of Brian Jonestown Massacre ) - From deceptively accessible BJM standouts like Not If You Were The Last Dandy On Earth and Maybe Tomorrow, to the tripped-out folk pop of The Out Crowd, and the hazy elegance of Rebel Drones, Hollywood's songwriting has wandered through multiple genres, the playful experimentation always grounded in a core of earnest emotion. Drawing on such diverse influences as Cohen, Hazlewood, Morricone, Gainsbourg, and classic blues and country, Hollywood is returning to the road with music from his upcoming WavePOP Records release, as well as some old favorites and never-heard-live rarities.https://www.facebook.com/badfeelingsatlanta

CHRIS SHIFLETT / BRIAN WHELAN

Chris Shiflett (of Foo Fighters) brings his solo project with full band!

$10 adv, $13 day of show

http://shiflett.bpt.me

Chris Shiflett (of Foo Fighters) brings his solo project honkytonkrock with full band. He just released "West Coast Town" on Side One Dummy
Alt-country songwriter. Rock & roll guitarist. Pop-punk pioneer. Chris Shiflett has played multiple roles during his 20+ year career, fronting his own band one minute and serving as the Foo Fighters'
longtime guitarist the next. He turns a new corner with West Coast Town, an autobiographical solo album that finds Shiflett pulling triple-duty as singer, songwriter and bandleader.
Heavily inspired by both the unique twang of California's country tradition — particularly Bakersfield icons like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard — and the rootsy stomp of the Rolling Stones, West Coast Town is an extension of the acclaimed alt-country career Shiflett kickstarted back in 2010. It's a bright, bold album, with Shiflett revising the supposed "rules" of country music to suit his own background. There are no songs about Georgia back roads here. No
southern belles in denim cut-offs. Instead, Shiflett — a California native who grew up in Santa Barbara — writes about an adolescence spent onstage, on the beach, and on the prowl. During the nostalgic title track, "West Coast Town," a teenage Shiflett chases girls along the Pacific Ocean shoreline, returning home at night to his childhood home on Salinas Street. Later, he drinks away an ex's memory in "Room 102," battles hangovers and heartbreak in "I'm Still Drunk," and triumphantly wraps up a rock & roll show with "Goodnight Little Rock."
"'Goodnight Little Rock' is a truck driving country song," he says of the rowdy, guitar-driven track, "but written from the viewpoint of a van tour. That's as close as I've come to ever being a truck driver."
Truck driver or not, Shiflett has spent the past two decades crisscrossing the globe, playing thousands of shows along the way. In 2016, those travels took him to Nashville, where he interviewed Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb as part of his weekly podcast, Walking the Floor with Chris Shiflett. The meeting took place at RCA Studio A, shortly after Cobb moved his recording operations into the historic room. There, surrounded by vintage gear and the ghosts of
country music's greatest singers, Cobb and Shiflett formed a genuine friendship. "When I left the studio," Shiflett remembers, "I thought, 'I have to make a record with that dude.' I was already a
big fan of the records Cobb produces, and his setup was just so amazing."
Later that summer, Shiflett came back to Nashville, this time with a catalog of new songs in tow. West Coast Town, his first solo album since 2013's collection of honky-tonk covers, All Hat and
No Cattle, was recorded at RCA Studio A over a three-week period, with help from Grammywinning engineer/mixer Matt Ross-Spang. Cobb doubled as the album's producer and acoustic guitar player, with a group of A-list studio musicians — pedal steel guitarist Robby Turner (Waylon Jennings, Chris Stapleton), drummer Chris Powell (Brent Cobb, Jamey Johnson), bassist Adam Gardner (Southern Family), and keyboardist Michael Webb (Southern Family) — adding their own contributions. On an album filled with all-star names, though, Shiflett plays the biggest role, singing and picking his way through 10 original songs that mix together the bounce of Bakersfield country, the anthemic punch of blue-collar roots-rock, the rule-breaking rebelliousness of SoCal punk, and plenty of guitar heroics.
With every song captured in two or three takes, West Coast Town often sounds more like the work of a live band than a studio creation. That approach suits the songs well. After all, this is an album about growing up — about making peace with your roots — and growing up is always a bit messy. Asked about his influences, Shiflett rattles off names like the Stray Cats, Social Distortion, Dwight Yoakam, and Uncle Tupelo, all of whom challenged the rules of the genres
they occupied. West Coast Town follows a similar path. Although set in coastal California, it's an album that creates its own geography — a place where dark lyrics rub shoulders with bright
bursts of melody; where country music doesn't just belong to American South, where the soft swoon of pedal steel makes way for sharply-worded lyrics; and where one of modern music's
biggest multi-taskers can combine his songwriting, singing and guitar-playing talents into one track list.

MARSHALL POOLE - "Marshall Poole isn’t a person; it’s a four-piece rock ’n’ roll outfit that originated out of the Boise suburbs at a New Year’s party in 2011. While the band is most certainly from Idaho, much of the music of their late-2015 release Totems is full of grizzly psychedelic Southern rock licks. It’s music that speaks to your soul while also slapping you in the face.”

Flannel Math Animal is an instrumental duo based out of Spokane, Washington. The initial idea behind the band started from a series of jam sessions in the fall of 2013 called the Space Funk Sessions. It was from these sessions that guitarist/synth player Nick Palmieri and drummer Brad Spracklin gave birth to their first few songs as Flannel Math Animal. Their music revolves around the ability to flow through complex time signatures so smoothly you won't even notice! Flannel Math Animal now has an EP out and another on the way, they have also been performing regularly around the local Spokane music scene. Stay tuned for a release of the new album, and try to catch them at a local venue near you!
