https://magicbeansyakattack.bpt.me

The Magic Beans have been making big waves in their home state of Colorado for some time now, with their unique genre-blending sound and exciting shows. Since starting to tour just couple of years ago, theyve caught the eyes and ears of many music lovers nationwide. Their annual Beanstalk Festival is also becoming quite the destination for the scene, growing in size and talent with each passing years. At the core of it all, Beans shows are a dance party, with an emphasis on original songwriting and extended segments of improvisation. [They] creatively invoke hints of your favorite live acts while managing to come across with a sound that is distinctly their own."
- Live for Live Music - 5 Up & Coming Jambands Poised to Take Over the Scene

Yak Attack will make you dance. Founded in Portland, OR in 2013, the live electronica trio has been making waves in the local scene and expanding its fan base regionally in its short history. Rowan Cobb (bass), Dave Dernovsek (keys) and Nick Werth (percussion/xylosynth) combine technical chops, live looping, and versatility to create a wall of danceable sound far beyond the capability of most three piece bands. Electronic and traditional genres including house, breakbeat, downtempo, jazz, and funk, tight compositions seamlessly blended with improvisation, and frequent contributions from guest musicians define a typical Yak show. The band released its first full-length album in 2015, Real World Conditions, and will soon be bringing its unique mix of live chops, electronic techniques, and monkey noises to a venue near you.

KYRS presents The Mynabirds w/ Lenore & Special local guests Sarah & Jen from Mama Doll

Don’t miss this show!

The Mynabirds

American singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn is a shape-shifter who can’t sit still. Since 2010 she’s worked under the moniker The Mynabirds, releasing three critically acclaimed and stylistically different albums on Saddle Creek: What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood (2010) and GENERALS (2012), both produced by Richard Swift, and Lovers Know (2015). She has also toured as a member of the Postal Service (2013) and Bright Eyes (2011), helped found Omaha Girls Rock (a non-profit helping young girls find their voices), and in 2013 gave a TED talk based on her “New Revolutionists” portrait project, exploring what it means to be a revolutionary woman in this day and age. Before the Mynabirds, Laura was a member of DC indie band Georgie James with Q And Not U’s John Davis, and also put out two self-produced solo albums on the label she founded herself, Laboratory Records.

The Mynabirds’ new album, BE HERE NOW, is a collection of 9 songs written and recorded in just 2 weeks in January 2017 following the Inauguration and the Women’s March. Singer Laura Burhenn worked with producer Patrick Damphier in his Nashville studio (which he was being evicted from to make way for luxury condos) to document the news and peoples’ intense emotional responses to it all in real time. No stranger to politics in her songwriting, Laura aimed to speak from the voice of the collective consciousness in a work of “Emotional Journalism,” singing the heartbreak, anger, exhaustion and resolute hope she witnessed during the Muslim travel ban, the final stand at Standing Rock, and every other news story that rattled America in that period. The album vacillates in style and feel to reflect a frayed nation, featuring a Burundian refugee choir on one song, and a cacophony of dissonant saxophones in a new national anthem on another. It is the last recording made in that space.

BE HERE NOW is being released very quickly as 3 digital EPs over 3 months to emphasize the immediacy of the songs. It will culminate in an official full album release on Saddle Creek in the summer of 2017.

About Lenore.

The coming together of Rebecca Marie Miller & Joy Pearson as Portland, Oregon folk outfit, Lenore., is serendipitous, to say the least.
After individually hitting rock bottom — Pearson following a divorce and Miller after a period of destitution in LA —
the pair separately turned to songwriting in the search for a still point in their turning worlds.

After years of lending their abilities to other projects, including Saddle Creek’s The Mynabirds & Portland’s own High Water Jazz Band,
they finally found themselves spinning on the same axis when a chance meeting through a mutual friend, Pokey LaFarge, sparked
an immediate connection. A drunken night ensued & before they’d even scoped each other’s material, they had committed.

Now, two years since that fateful evening & Lenore. can boast having performed at legendary PNW venues including Mississippi Studios, Aladdin Theater & Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, as well as the Sunset Tavern, Triple Door & Tractor Tavern in Seattle.
They’ve opened for Eric Bachmann, Laura Gibson, Esme Patterson, Blitzen Trapper & ex-collaborators The Mynabirds & have
shared the stage with Peter Buck (R.E.M.), as well as Chris Funk & Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists).

Since forming Lenore., Miller & Pearson have gained full-time collaborators in seasoned Portland musicians
Edward Cameron (classical guitar) & Jessie Dettwiler (cello), who have contributed significantly to the evolution of
Lenore.’s sound — a dreamy melancholic blend of harmony-driven folk with an ever present sense of hope.
More recently, Lenore. began playing with a rhythm section that features a rotating cast of bassists & drummers.
Lenore. released their debut self-titled album produced by John Askew on 9/15/2017, and will embark on their first tour this October.

THE STONE FOXES / CATTYWOMP / TRAVELER OF HOME

$10 pre, $13 door
The Stone Foxes are an experience to dive into, to get wild with, to sweat with. "The Stone Foxes have an energetic style that's rooted in swampy, foot-stomping rock...ambitious arrangements with diverse moods ranging from acoustic twang to thunderous electric-guitar riffs."
– NPR/WXPN "WORLD CAFE"
Invoking the audience with their commanding stage presence, even jumping down into the crowd if the mood strikes. Their fans know they are in for something action packed and they light a fire in the band, just as the band spreads fire back into them. Guitarists digging in, lead vocals changing between two unique voices with impassioned nuance, and keyboard and organ sounds that fill the space with smoke and burning embers. There are crunchy drum tones, wailing harmonica draws and violin cries that can silence even the most raucous of rooms. But this is not a sit-down-and-watch kind of event. Like Elvis once said about rock n roll, “If you feel it, you can’t help but move to it.” The Stone Foxes' live show brandishes this kind of dynamic passion on stage. It's impossible not to feel it.

Since banding together in 2012, psychedelic cumbia-punk trio Thee Commons have made waves in and around their hometown of East LA. Featuring los hermanos Pacheco and one of several lively session bassists, these romp ‘n’ rollers have managed not only to marry two unlikely genres -- world’s apart -- in perfect pastiche harmony but have also compiled a prolific catalogue of music to which they toured through the United States in an extensive 32 days, 35 shows tour in the Summer of 2016. Named #15 on LA Weekly’s “LA’s 20 Best Live Shows of 2016” outranking the likes of ELO, Bruce Springsteen and The Who, Thee Commons have created a buzz with their vivacious performances. Chris Ziegler founder of LA Record wrote about Thee Commons, “Live, they’re fearless, confident and ready to go off-script at a moment’s inspiration. It’s wild stuff, just as it absolutely should be.” To which Chris Kissel of LA Weekly further comments, “If Thee Commons aren’t the best live band in Los Angeles, they’re damn near the top.”

DEATH VALLEY GIRLS/ PERU RESH / INDIAN GOAT

Think of Death Valley Girls as an acid-tripping science experiment that’s been buried alive, and resurrected as a sexually liberated dystopian chain-gang. A cosmic scar, if you will, on the hills of Echo Park, where the experiment began in 2013 by proto-punk Bonnie Bloomgarden and guitarist Larry Schemel — who got lost in the desert, returned to their haunted garage in Echo Park, and pieced together their vision with shopworn images of sexploitation babes, a blood-soaked Iggy Pop, and Bloomgarden’s series of phantasms, the result of spending a year in a mental institution, where she planned her neon-glowing odyssey by listening to Black Sabbath and UFO, reading about alien conspiracy theories, and deriving her band’s moral compass from a line she saw in a movie:

Trash Dogs Originally started by brothers Matt and Jonny Wade as an excuse to fuse their loves of Rainier beer and honest, authentic rock and roll, Trash Dogs are reminiscent of 80’s punk rock influenced by 1970s country melodies. Volume 1, the band’s debut EP, combines raw, dynamic rock with earnest lyricism and delivery. The record opens with the frantic, brooding "Animal," and closes with the laid-back highway rock of "Babylon." Northwest Music Scene called it "...laden with enough catchy guitar hooks and straightforward, high-energy songwriting to awaken the animal in even the most skeptical, special effect-reliant listeners."

Revolutionary music may seem hard to come by in these days and times. Long gone is the era of artists like Bob Marley, The Clash, Stevie Wonder and Patti Smith getting airplay and bringing their messages to the masses. But that doesn’t mean that the revolution isn’t still brewing in the hearts and minds of many people around the globe.

Meet Mike Love. One of reggae music’s rising stars. Born and raised in Oahu, Hawaii to a musical family that spans generations, Mike Love brings a multitude of influences to the table, all tied together by the common goal of making the world a better place.  Through the grassroots method of releasing his albums independently, on his own Love Not War Records label, and performing 250 plus shows a year, Love has built an ever growing following for his unique and inspiring music.  He has toured with many artists in the circles of conscious, roots music, including Trevor Hall, Xavier Rudd, Nahko and many more.  Over the past few years he performed to enthusiastic audiences at the California Roots Festival, Wakarusa, Wanderlust and the Montreal Jazz Fest, just to name a few. He has also enjoyed great success and exposure through the web on outlets like YouTube, with one of his videos just recently hitting 9 million views!

On his award winning debut album, The Change I’m Seeking, Love harkens the legends of roots reggae in both his lyrics and his sound, but never relies on any one genre to hold him down. Coming from a wealth of influences, Love fuses the simple rhythms of classic reggae with the complex changes of the classical and rock music he was first trained on to come up with a style wholly unique to him.  On his follow up album, Love Will Find A Way, released September 1st, 2015, Love further refines his sound and message, with grand and striking arrangements and deep heartfelt emotions, he takes you on a journey which many describe as "life changing".  He calls for immediate and drastic change in environmental impact on "Step Lightly", affirms his connection with fans on "I Love You, and shows a vulnerable and touching insight into his personal life on "Advaya's Song" and "No Regrets".  Following up with his most eclectic blend of styles, "Love Overflowing" perfectly compliments the previous release, with a downplayed mood of depth and reflection in the music.

But it’s his message, his passion, the wisdom behind his words that truly resonate with his fans. “It’s always been about the healing,” Mike Love explains, “I’ve never been into music that was shallow. I’m still learning about where I’m going and where I want to be. All the music is a learning tool for me too. I just make myself open to it and the messages come through. It’s just as teaching and healing for me as it is for anyone.”

His songs take you on a journey, one of healing and inspiration. One designed to help you on your path to knowledge, wisdom and understanding. On “Permanent Holiday” he takes you on a lyrical quest for freedom, both his and yours. He laments the ills of the world but also discusses solutions and ideas to change them. On "Earthlings" he sings about being vegan, about animal cruelty and about holding yourself accountable for your actions. These are songs with messages designed to affect change in a time when it is so desperately necessary.

Love and his band have already toured in the U.S., Canada, Central America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and East Asia.  Mike Love has shared the stage with artists like Michael Franti, Trevor Hall, Nahko & Medicine For The People, Xavier Rudd, Rebelution, John Butler Trio, Groundation, Steel Pulse, Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson.  2017 is shaping up to be a big year of even more growth for Love and his musical family with plenty of touring and work on a brand new record!

Andy Rumsey music - local loop artist talent. Andy has always been interested in fostering a genuine connection between himself, his audience, and the music. While easy to recognize as a celebration of life, beauty, and harmony, his work also grapples with some of the problems faced in the world today. Andy doesn’t claim to have all the answers, instead he invites the audience to consider the subjects and join him in the discussion. In this way the music takes on the personality of the performer. One song could explore the soul, the mind, or society, while the next expresses the pleasure of being alive.
